Important Notice: State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Program

Important Notice: State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Program

The Office of the State Treasurer is requiring that any business operating for at least three years in the State of Maine, must report any unclaimed property (i.e. checks made to a deceased person, uncashed payroll checks, etc.). “The unclaimed property is a program managed by the Office of the State Treasurer for Maine to assist businesses in keeping their books clean and releasing liability for dormant financial property when the owner cannot be located.” *Please note: for businesses that do not have any unclaimed property,  a ‘negative’ report must be filed accordingly.
